What are these bubbles in the sand? Is it a bad sign or just normal bacteria processes of sorts?

Normal processes of bacteria. You can get sand sifters and they will help get rid of these naturally. Be careful about stirring up the sand too much to get rid of these if you don't like them because it can throw your tank off
