what are these long white stringy things flowing in the current?

Yeah because they’re happy to see food
To remove them as they can sting coral, aim water flow towards them, not at them to prevent food from reaching them and they will starve themselves

I'll try that out. I'm also in the process of fallowing and my pod population has exploded, I'm guessing that's where a majority of their food source is coming from!

I've also read foxfaces will eat them, do you have any experience on this?

Fox faces are hit and miss
Some will eat it all and some won’t touch anything other than frozen foods
