WHAT ARE THEY DOING THAT WE AREN'T?

My friend had an account in a 5 million dollar home. It rivaled the state aquarium and was the entire wall. It went up two flights of stairs behind a spiral staircase. It was like those tanks you see from other countries. He had many accounts like this.

Remember a similar thread a few months back that stirred some controversy.
I'm originally from Lebanon in the Middle East and have been traveling 2-3 weeks per month for the last 10 yrs and this allowed me to see many setups in the US Europe Middle East and Africa...
There are some major differences between the setups, livestock and husbandry in general when u compare American to European reef tanks mainly around below points (of course differences exist)
- reefing methods relying more on ULNS in Europe where they mastered the science, this is clear in some European countries more than others.
-setups are different in size and configuration fewer European tanks get to have basements or fish room for filtration which led to the Europeans having to do more with less space or equipment and they knew how to play it very well.
- coral trade with a different approach in selling frags Vs colonies. This goes both ways where frags trade has provided more access to more colorful corals than what we see usually but again it takes a few more hrs to get the tank to fill up properly.
- corals sell for a higher price in Europe usually which allows stores to order higher quality corals. I've seen indo shipments from same suppliers that go to stores in Middle East for instance and to Europe and the difference is huge.
-finally it goes back to what reefers we see posting here and whether we check other forums in different languages and also what is not on forums to really compare. I have seen tanks in countries like Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait that rival USA or European tanks but where unfortunately posting on forums still ain't common culture so those go unnoticed.

What led would you recommend for a 20 gallon? AI Prime?
I would go with the Hydra 26 hd, and mount it with a small tv mount so that you can swing the light were you need it. See if one of you LFS store has them.

I actually haven't seen Jeff in 3 years, but no I don't have pictures. You can't share those things, as these are the insides of people's homes.... people that go through a lot of trouble and expense to maintain their privacy. There's one half of Hollywood/LA/Palisades. that are "loud and showy". The other would rather block us from using their streets than share them with us and would rather forget the dregs exist. I've seen crazy crazy amounts of money in this area. It's gross.

Your right, sorry for asking.:(

Oh gosh no. No sorry required. I'm just saying those nice tanks are here, they're hiding up in the hills and the only people who see them are "their crowd" and the help. :-/

I wish I was in the crowd or help ;)

I visit or buy frags from my local community of reefers. I have had my mind blown many times.
I feel kinda bad they are coming to live in my hovel.

Thanks!!!

Radions are echotech marine and AI, from my research more are happier with the AI products for the reason they get more for there money.

This thread is worthless without pics... Sorry had too!

Here's a little bitty 40 gallon. Nothing 2 stories tall around a spiral staircase, but I have some SPS. These photos are 7 months apart.

I read an interesting thread similar to this quite a while ago and now I forget where I found it, but essentially it explained that some of the amazing SPS setups you are seeing especially from the Australia/Indonesia regions aren't all they are cracked up to be. It said that some of these systems use a method of stocking that happens virtually overnight because they add few to no fish at all and simply use colonies pulled straight of of the reef to fill their tanks. Certainly some of the European tanks, especially the ones coming from the Dutch are a whole different story and are simply incredible, but others might not be as impressive as they may seem

I work in alot of homes here in Florida and have seen amazing reefs, one customer didn't even know about forums and maintained his own 1500 gallon bow front sps tank 60" deep.with 3000 was of halides. Some people just don't get into showing it off.lucky for me I'm invited over for frags soon lol
