Title says it all folks, just picked up a new rainbow open brain (trachyphyllia Geoff.) and am wondering what everyone is feeding your open brains (if anything). I am currently using fauna marin ultra LPS pellets for my scolymias and they seem to love it, but am curious if people are going for more meaty items for their brains at all. Also have to throw in a pic as I am in love with this new guy :) (please excuse terrible camera skills, taken with my phone as med school loans suck all my money that the tank doesn't steal first so no camera haha)

And for the record I did go black sand..... have had a lot of tanks up in the past and just wanted to go different with my current tank. Also pic does look WAY darker than it actually was, this was taken about 6 pm so my lights were just ramping down, but still had the white led on around 30 %.... just looks so actinic for some reason. Anyways thanks in advance for your advice and HAPPY REEFING

I use Fauna Marin LPS Pellets and Coral Frenzy pellets....be careful not to over feed trachys, welsos, and scolys easy to do IME!

Trachy loved rods food or lrs nanoblend. My new scoly is not picky either . He responds to oyster feast , mysis, reef roids, lrs nano blend. He was a little more picky at first though and had to entice him to eat . Like mentioned above though don't over feed these bad boys

This how my brain eating his food (granules from fauna marin), he love it, also and other LPS corals

I use my lfs coral food and reef chili, I'll catch it grab frozen foods at times also.

Lrs reef frenzy nano with arcti-pods n phytoplankton mixed is what I've been feeding lps and they look great and acans sprouting babies like crazy.

I feed mine 1/4in piece of raw shrimp about 3 time a week, I also hand feed the same stuff to my cleaner shrimp before lights out. The shrimp actually tore up the mouth of my wellso to get the food out of it, The wellso did not survive from that.

Dang sorry to hear about that miyags, shrimp can definitely be a pain at times. After my last cleaner shrimp that constantly tore at my scolymia, I gave hime to a buddy and have decided to not get one until I have a much larger system. Sounds like everyone is feeding brains about what i expected so next question here is HOW OFTEN ARE YOU FEEDING? Currently I have been feeding the scoly around 1 a week right after lights out, but I would like to hear what everyone else seems to think.

I won't recommend what I do but for the record I pour a half cup of phyto mixed with a little liquid invert food and a dash of coral frenzy or reef chili daily into the tank with the return pump off for a half hour. During that time I also feed the fish a small amount of frozen mysis, or cyclops some of which also makes it to the brain corals. They'be been in my tank for a year now, keep tentacles extended most of the time and are growing slowly. I have at least a half dozen scattered around the tank and all are doing well.
