Lately, I’ve been try to figure out what I can solidly contribute to the forum. For instance, @ngoodermuth is great for fish diseases and treatments. Some of you are great at lighting or chemistry. There are some tank cycling experts too. Some are great for advise on specific species like wrasses or anemones. I’ve never felt I was particularly good at any one thing. I try to be kind and welcoming and sometimes I can offer advice on a few things. But I don’t feel like I contribute very much. Maybe I do.... I don’t know.

But I’m much more interested in what you guys feel you are good at. How did you gather your knowledge? Did you go to school? Read books? Learn the hard way? Take a look at yourself and tell me where you excel.

This is an outstanding topic. I feel the same way. I look at so many posts requesting advice and think I know the answer, but hesitate because I don't want to steer someone wrong. Seems like I get a lot more from the community than I give.

As for me, I don't think I'm particularly good at any one thing, but I'm very attentive to my tanks and good at seeking guidance. I've had a surprising level of success so far, and I attribute that directly to the guidance I've recieved from our community and dumb luck.

I think you contributed a lot, and been helpful.

My expertise would be on what not to do and how to bring a species to the brink of extinction :) :)

I do think my area is older filter system and set ups. Once apex and the all in one and tanks in a box came out I stopped trying to learn. Old ways work fine

Nice topic!

I feel like I can be good at creating thought provoking topics when I have time to do so!

Me too! So often I don’t have what I feel is good advice to give. I try..

I specialize in research and development of non-advantageous reefing techniques
You too? I wonder which of us has more useless stuff in our closet?

You’re very kind. Sometimes I feel like an “old schooler” too. I have an apex and other fancy stuff but what really works is good salt, regular water changes, a sump, a skimmer, and two part.

I like to think that I bring to the table, the ability to keep quite a few people in business. Mostly with a lot of things I probably don’t need. @BestMomEver you bring a lot to the forum. You keep on doing what you do.
You’re sweet. I buy my share of useless stuff too!

@revhtree youre good at all kinds of stuff. The list would be very long indeed.
