What are you using to dose Nitrates?

Last edited:
Intersting I’ve read in Several other post that when dosing nitrates its a good thing to have phosphate Available in case it drops too much from bringing No3 up, if so what would be a good Po4 to have in case it happens

Those witH SPS, what is the optimal nitrate and phosphate you are working towards with this dosing?

From what I been seeing people are content with No3 at 5-10ppm and Po4 at .4-6

But that’s from a bunch of reading from a few years ago I would be happy with 5-10 No3 at the moment and see the effects on my Po4 within those levels since I know every system is chemically different

I use sodium nitrate from loudwolf.
A doser now adds 100 ml daily to maintain nitrates at 4 ppm.
My corals colored up nicely.

@Wen
I have a need to dose for both NO3 and PO4. The Loudwolf product I bought is powder form. Can you share what your solution is (as in grams per ml) and how much your are replacing each day?

Or anyone else who is mixing their own please feel free to share.

I found these recipes somewhere here in R2R, and it took a couple months for numbers to settle. (Multiple reasons)

My NO3 solution is 2 tsp loud wolf potassium nitrate per 800 ml of rodi water. Doser adds 100 ml per day.
For my tank, this maintains NO3 at 4.

My PO4 solution is 1 tsp loud wolf trisodium phosphate per liter of rodi water. Doser adds 18ml per day.
This maintains PO4 around .04.

Quantity of fish in dt, skimmer use and refugium health play big roles in fluctuating numbers.

The dt is 150, lots of sps frags, huge monti and multiple lps, it’s running fallow till May, fuge isnt currently happy and skimmer is off (due to no fish).

Hope this helps.
