What are your favorite auto water change systems?

I just use an old masterflex pump and a cheap Kasa timer to turn it on and off. The only disadvantage is that I can’t calibrate or adjust the outputs, so I have to mix my water with slightly higher salinity because it doesn’t put in quite as much water as it takes out.

I think a lot depends on the size of the tank and also if you have Apex

Apex DOS is very simple to program and use and works perfectly but it maybe isn’t the cheapest option. I use this is both my systems although im currently experimenting at doing nominal water changes these days.

You could just use a simple pumping system, to pump water in and out if you have a sump for example. As always there are many options.

I’m very impressed with my new hydros ato setup. No issues in 2 weeks (my Tunze would occasionally have a sensor issue) and whisper quiet, can’t even tell when it’s on

I use Ecotech Versas for my AWC. I need a pump that had enough head pressure as my mixing tank is in the basement and the Versas do it easily. I am not a fan of Mobius though.

When I was doing water changes I used spectrapure. If I decide to start doing WCs again in the future I'll definitely be using my LM3 and pumps again. Second to none.

I'm using the GHL Maxi as a stand-alone AWC system. I'm changing water 12 times daily (every 2 hours) for about 1.5% daily. It pulls from the overflow section of the sump and fills to the return section simultaneously, so it doesn't affect the ATO at all. The wastewater goes directly into a floor drain. It's been working really good for a couple of years now. I've read that the Maxi has been discontinued, but the Apex DOS heads fit the Maxi, so as long as the unit itself doesn't fail, I should be able to keep it going.

Been really happy with it so far.

Disclaimer: It's pretty loud. I have the unit in the shop behind the tank, so it's not an issue for me.

I am not sure what I am going to do.

I was going to use a Litermeter system bought the starting kit and have it set up to refill my ATO container I was going to expand to AWC and Kalk dosing but could not get the level sensors to work on my sump and Specture has suspended all tech support.

I wish Genesis was still in operation.

I’m using the same. Very solid and designed to run continuously. Mine exchanges water from 130’ away using RO tubing from the tank to the garage. I use the APEX as my timer and also monitor water levels and water on the floor, etc.

Dos with apex. One for basement 600g system, one for living room 80g. I would warn that the tube in the head will eventually wear through and quit moving water. Only one that's a worry for me would be the return from the living room, all others cannot create a siphon.

Why is it not necessary to calibrate?

I am just about to implement my LiterMeter 3 module with additional remote pump to perform an auto water exchange in my home with my soon to be set up 180 gallon tank with 60g sump! Water station will be in garage with a recirculating DI loop in my atmospheric reservoir for guaranteed ultra-pure water. Resistivity meter in use to maintain a certain purity

My LM3 and RPM will both be in the garage and I am going to run the tubing up 15ft and over 175-200ft to the back of my house where the tank is located. The waste water will go straight down a drain nearby. I will document all this in a thread when I get things together!

The one thing that really sticks out to me about my LMs is; Reliability, Pump power (height and length), ease of maintenance, and once again, Reliability! It's pricey, but as I say you get what you pay for plus most pumps go maybe 8ft high at most. The current one in use is like 10 years old and just like everything else I have, is cared for greatly and still work wells.

I’ve been using spectrapure liter meter 3 for more than a decade for various reefing applications. I’ve been using them for AWC for about 3 years now. Great product.

They are local to me (about 15 mins away) and I absorbed a lot of information to get me on track with a water changing station (basically their setup up RODI-> water station /w DI loop) so just going to take it sloooow and gather the rest of what I need Will invest in a LM4 when I get my frag tank, then i can setup 2 AWC in 1 module and keep my LM3 for future use

I did two 50ml/min BRS dosing pumps on a timer for years, but they only seemed to last a month or two past the 1 year warranty. I upgraded to a Neptune DOS a few years ago and I have been happy with it. I just picked up a second unit to dose kalkwasser, I wish they made a single head unit.

If you don't have an apex, a pair of the 50 ml/min dosing pumps on timer is cost effective and does the job.

Been using LM4 for about 6 months. Works flawlessly. Very quiet and can pump a long distance. Is on the pricey end tho.
