What are your most peaceful fish?

Yall writing hawkfish and tangs that are peaceful :face-with-tears-of-joy:

This though. Be careful of what people are saying are "peaceful in their tank" . That's not the correct way to look at it... all my fish are peaceful together now... and a lionfish is peaceful too if he's in with groupers and eels and stuff... I currently have 5 tanks in my house and just because every fish get along now in those tanks does not mean I would ever call all the tangs, hawks, clowns, triggers, and angels peaceful... flames hawks and long noses are peaceful so long as everything else is larger. That generally goes for most aggressive fish save for clowns dottybacks damsels and some wrasses. Also many of the peaceful fish are only peaceful in pairs or singular.

I belive he's asking about fish that are peaceful regardless of tank mates (barring multiples of the same species)

Yes for my own tank I am looking for more those that are always docile, however it is interesting to hear what works for everyone else.

Has anyone tried Vanderbilt Chromis? They come up as being pretty docile but if I remember correctly we had them at my store a couple of months ago and they fought pretty badly amongst themselves.

For sure isn't going to be any of the clownfish I have haha! Probably would have to say my Foxface would be the nicest fish in any of my tanks.

Elongate Dottyback is my favorite! Dottybacks are usually semi-aggressive, but not the Elongate. They are very peaceful and can be hard to find. Might need to order online somewhere. Great color and personality and swim out in the open and sleep in rockwork. This vid shows me putting one in my tank (starts at 3:42 in Video)

Have a magnificent foxface, he's taken to chasing my Tomini (flame) Tang
I have had mine chase my Binotatus but this was only ever when the Binotatus went at the foxface first.
I have 2 tanks, both have extremely peaceful fish however my 4’ have aggressive fish that are meant to be peaceful and timid fish that are meant to be aggressive.

In my nano;
Stonogobiops yasha
Trimma tevegae
Gobiodon acicularis
Koumansetta hectori (MIA)
Discordipinna griessingeri (Not recommended for large tanks)
Macropharyngodon bipartitus - Temporary
Cirrhilabrus naokoae - Temporary

In my 4’ tank, notoriously peaceful yet aggressive instead;
Chelmon Rostratum
Halichoeres iridis (Mainly towards the wrasses - He is the boss)
Cebu Cirrhilabrus lubbocki
Amphiprion occelaris x percula

Notoriously aggressive yet peaceful instead;
Ctenochaetus binotatus
Halichoeres chloropterus
Cirrhilabrus melanomarginatus

The ones that stick to their notorious personality traits instead;
Cryptocentrus cinctus (Peaceful)
Paracheilinus hybrid (Peaceful)
Siganus magnificus (Peaceful, rarely messed with)
Genicanthus melanospilos (Peaceful, rarely messed with)
Indonesian Cirrhilabrus lubbocki (Peaceful/Semi-aggressive, mainly peaceful unless with similar species)

Pink-streaked wrasse. I have limited experience, but all I have read is that they are super passive.

The most peaceful I've ever had are the pygmy wrasses (yellow banded, white banded, tanaka's) and firefish. Most shrimp gobies I've kept will not bother anyone except other shrimp gobies. Blennies of the Ecsenius genus (among my favorite fish, period) are generally very peaceful, but they can be bullies once they've established a territory and are comfortable in the tank. I've had several that will nip other fish (and my hands).

One Bangaii cardinal, one firefish, possum wrasse, tailspot blenny and flasher wrasses are some of the most peaceful ive seen.

Yeah people browsing this looking for peaceful fish suggestions should know there are a lot of notoriously aggressive fish being listed! There just happens to be some peaceful examples...

+1 for Banggai cardinal, but also +1 to the fact that it's because they have zero personality/activity whatsoever. So yeah, they are peaceful.

My Starry Blenny is incredibly peaceful, and full of personality as well. I know sometimes these guys can get territorial but mine hasn't, he's BFF with everyone in the tank. Even the Clowns let him chill with them in their anemone.

Man, if only tangs weren’t all aggressive!
I mean, yes I have my own tang but he can be aggressive when he wants to but most of the time he’s peaceful.

I’m glad someone on the first page pointed this out as it wouldn’t be great to pick out a tang that you read is definitely peaceful then have it being a monster for aggression.

Awesome suggestions! I’m definitely looking for the Pygmy wrasses. That dottyback looks awesome but unfortunately I’m not seeing one on any of our lists. I’ll keep an eye out for sure.

My Convict Tang (ironically) is very peaceful. His lives as if his sole purpose in life is to eat all the algae in my tank. He is most happy when I turn off my powerheads so he can get to those. He seems to pay no attention to anyone else. Yellow wrasse is my runner up, only hates small snails, is cool with everyone else.

Possum wrasse: mind could care less about anyone else. Just likes to wander around and find food.

Funny you say this. Mine is obsessed with my Tomini tang. He literally follows him everywhere. Best buds, or at least my Foxface thinks so.

I'm going to throw yellow assessors in the ring. I think they're among the only fish that could compete for the ultimate title alongside the various cardinalfish species. I think they are criminally underrated in the hobby and are among my favourite fish, in no small part due to their temperament.

Bangai Cardinal and Royal Gramma. My clowns are very friendly to their fishy friends but absolute a**holes to me.. ha
