Yes, it's working, I am doing this practice since 3 months and my tank is sumpless and it's similar to a freshwater tank with corals growing.

All my LIVESTOCK'S are from 180G tank which I downgraded to 55G due to space constraints and corals are with me since two years and I have fragged them too.

How do you get drop in nitrates via HOB?
It does not make sense to me, sustainable in what sense.

Nitrates are produced after breakdown of organics, if you take it out before that, the amount produced is very less and is used up by corals, this is what PS also do. I clean my 3"x6" filter floss everyday.

Organics breakdown takes place after 6-9hrs of it being introduced, if detritus and organics are pulled out, no large ammonia, nitrite or nitrates production.

Seems like this is a futile effort, how about energy cost of having the treatment tank running. It's your life and your tank but I think that regular water changes will be the best way to go


Also throw some sps in there and they wont last a week. Just my opinion

Well, I am going to put some SPS there soon, montipora is already there, I know it's a hard coral, it will survive the conditions.
You suggested water change, I would like to know what happens with water that you throw away, why it can't be reused, what are the problems in it?

I think my evidence is how much better the tank looks after a water change. Cleaner and clearer

May I know the best conditions of water which keeps LIVESTOCK'S in good condition.

My parameters are like... after RECYCLED water...
Calcium at 440
Mag at 1500
Alk at 6 which I raise to 8
Nitrates 0
Phosphate 0
SG at 1.026
Temp is matched
Trace elements are dosed bcos I am using two part system.

What else is needed for good parameters?

I am saving energy, water and cost involved by making things work for a short time that is in 15-20 days interval.
