been playing with the idea of a couch side nano for some time now. ( dont tell the GF!) I have a 10 and 20L laying around but also thinking of a evo 13.5 or IM 14/20 peninsula.

I would need this to be a simple and clean as possible...that said what ATO res. are you nano folks using? how do you have it placed. can y'all post some pics.

when I had the 20L set up i got the 10 gal for the ato res but I dont think that is going to fly.

You can use just about any plastic bottle drinks are sold in. I would never use something as big as 10 gallons for a 20 gallon tank. I have had my ATO stickon on two occasions emptying all 10 gallons into my tank. Not a big deal on a 350 gallon system, however on a 20 gallon the same thing would have probably cause some real issues for your fish and corals. Not to mention 8 or so gallons no on the floor. I would not use a container that holds more than you tank can handle should it all get added at once.

I use a innovative marine 5gal ATO reservoir for my 20 gallon nuvo tank. It is a pretty nice and clean setup and can be placed under most stands or displayed. (using tunze ATO 3155 with it)

Edit: If you travel or are away from your tanks for multiple days a week I recommend you to buy the 3155 tunze over the nano version due to it have two separate fail safes.

I wonder how much evap happens on small tanks. out here in the west i get tons. on my old 90 cube i was getting 1 -1.5 gallon a day and on my RS750XXL i will be expecting 2 gal a day min. but on a small tank maybe .25-.5 gal a day?

any nano reefers out in the dry west in the rocky mountains? how much evap. do you get?

I was thinking of that not cheap tho. the nano would be on a side table by the couch so no stand. but maybe that could work??

I have a 10 nuvo and I lose anywhere from an inch to 2 inches in the last chamber from wake up to bedtime. To me that doesn’t justify an ato for softies and rock nems. Even then, if I ever did, it would be a half gallon or a quart size container.

Yeah depending on how tall the side table it could fit under it or next to it. It looks good enough to sit it in the open next to the side table too.
Mine is under my tank stand but it is an open stand so the reservoir is always visible and looks pretty good

Edit: I route my cables using adhesive zip tie mounts on the reservoir for a very clean look, all depends how you want the setup to look like. They have them on amazon for a ~$10 well worth it to have a pack of them.

On my 20 gallon tank I use ~1 -1.25 gallons in a week with high varied flow caused by the powerhead (Vortechmp10) using a mesh lid. Glass lids would retain far more water and no lid probably more water evaporation than my tank so ~1.25 -1.5 gallons in a week possible. People with lower surface flow would decrease both of these and have less evaporation.

Location: NC, near beach
I would love to see the difference in dry heat environments

yeah I bet dry environments evap. a bit more for sure just not sure how much. but when I had the 20L up I dont reminder it being to bad. just dont want to top off daily if I can help it. I could then when I travel I could set up the 10 for a res...that might be the cheapest and cleanest option.

or I hope to have a mixing station for the 750XXL with AWC maybe i just tie it in to the 55 gal ATO res! :O

There are many factors that affect the amount of evaporation. I had a 20 gallon that would evaporate a gallon a day. My current 350 gallon system evaporators 1.5 gallons a day maximum.

yeah very true. but on average AIO nano "should" evap. a lot less is my thinking.
wondering what the nano folks are using for the res. as a ATO is a must for me . :D

On the 20 gallon I just reached it was actually 29 gallons. But still it evorporated a lot. Fo it I had a gallon container that would drip into it all day long, but it had to be filled everyday. Not very practical. On a second 29 I had more recently I had a 2.5 gallon container in the stand and had a proper ATO setup. The 2.5 gallons would last a week or so on that tank. The container was from a pet store sold for dog food storage.

I for got that I have a glass 2 gal jar I was brewing kombucha in. i'll see if I can find a small glass drill bit for the lid or side for the ATO hose.

now to convince the GF we need a nano :D
Just pull the old classic I got this so we have something to do together and enjoy. "I remembered that time at the aquarium you mentioned you love the cute little fish".

That or promise to let her have her own fish in the tank or you guys together can name them.

I have a IM 14 peninsula and I just set up a 3 gal ATO. Got the bucket and lid from Home Depot and depending how hot it is that week in Colorado I can go through about 3-4 gal of RO a week. I normally have a glass lid partially on the tank but if it’s really hot I keep it off and run a fan to try and help keep the temp controlled.
