What brand Vodka do you use?

Here in Europe alot of people using this receipe. Cheapest vodka what you can get without flavor, just white vinegar 6% and normal white sugar ..
Mixing:
2dl vodka
0.5dl vinegar
1.5 tablespoons of suger (arround 20grams )
Mixed well together to dissolve..
And start slow with dosing its suggested if system volume is arround 400Liters start dosing with 2ml or basically 0.5ml per 100L .And then just test test test..

I like to use the Red Sea products they work great

Make sure you use Potato based Vodka, no grain vodka which is not even real Vodka.

Na zdrowie !

I'm not sure if this is said in jest???

Bacteria is only interested in the ethanol, not in the slight differences in fruitiness or tongue feel of the vodka.

FYI, most US vodkas are grain based....and my bacteria are belly-up to the bar, sucking it down.

I’m sorry to ask and this may sound stupid but I haven’t heard of using vodka and vinegar for the reef and wondering what purpose it has? Sorry to be so ignorant. Please explain if anyone has time. Thank you just interested. Have 300 gal reef.

Well, you guys are not using the Vodka which the VSV method is originally using. Vodka made out of grain is actually called Aquavit or better known as Schnaps or Korn in Germany, nothing to do with real Vodka which is made out of potatoes.
I had much less issues with Cyano when using real polish Vodka ;-)

Best carbon source is Race fuel RODI mix anyways!!!

My pair of clowns are named Grey and Goose. They no longer drink it but their owner still does.

I do apologize because my interest is an ethanol supply, and the last time I checked, Polish vodka and/or Aquavit or "grain" vodka at 80 proof contains 40 percent ethanol. I don't care what you wish to call it, but it's ethanol, and that's the part I'm interested in....and so is the bacteria. Potatoes, corn, wheat, etc, all ferment to ethanol....which is further distilled to concentrate the ethanol. I'm not drinking it, I'm feeding bacteria!

Some have had issue with dosing ethanol only...with cyano reported as a potential problem. I don't believe the issue is potato versus grain based vodka. Most have resolved this issue by cutting back the initial dosing of changing to vinegar. In my case, I dose a combination of both ethanol and vinegar (NOPOX), and have no issue with cyano.

I'm not a VSV subscriber and believe the sugar (whatever suger you wish to define) can be problematic....it's the reason I don't use this system for carbon dosing. Some have had success with this, but it's not for me....whether it's with Polish vodka or some grain rot-gut vodka. I've actually heard more problems with cyano by those using VSV.

Always wanting to learn, I'm interested in your comment about racing fuel. I worked pit crew in racing in the late 60's and early 70's and not sure if you're talking nitromethane, high leaded fuels, methanol, or some other fuel I'm not familiar with. Could you supply detail in this being a preferred carbon source for bacteria? It's got my curiosity.

Grey Goose or Stolichnaya Elit for me. Sugar for the tank. But, now I use bio-pellets instead.

I use Titos...One for the tank, one for me ;)

Tito’s. Anything else is treason. Unless you’re not from Texas in which case, well... maybe it’s not only lawyers first!

That said, brand doesn’t matter unless you’re nuts (me), or it’s flavored or has added crap. Chances are cheap is good.
