Ok so I have the api and a hanna calcium test. Not the most accurate. What is the most accurate calcium test?

I've used Salifert exclusively for the past 4 years, I just ordered a RedSea Pro test kit, I'll post comparison readings once the RedSea kit arrives.

I have used the Hanna test kits without a problem. They're pretty consistent but require DISTILLED water.

So the rodi water doesn't work with the hanna? I thought the rodi was ok to use. My test with It are just Inconsistent. Checked two days ago and got 388, checked today and got 440. Havent dosed anything. Will look into the salifert and red sea. Thanks

Goby I see you are around deals gap!! I love that place, I raced for them on the wera circuit until 2006 In light weight suberbike.

don't use hanna, just get salifer or elos.
I like Elos cause you can get a range test eg:400-450ppm fairly quick and easy.
The color is a lot easier to read too.

I like the elos nitrate way better than the api. Wish hanna would come out with one for nitrate that was reasonable. Also wish hanna would give you the reagent in a bottle with a scoop too.lol

Red Sea Pro. I've also found the API to be fairly accurate. It let's you know the ballpark figure you are near, but not down to the precise level the Red Sea does. When I compared the RSP to the API they were very close numerous times that I have tested them. Both the RSP and API were not very close to what a Hanna Checker were reading though... Just letting you know my experience.

Ryan when you use the hanna do you use rodi or distilled? Goby stated that they require distilled. All the looking I have done I find rodi to be better water.

I use my tank water to test Calcium which is made from RO/DI water and Red Sea and Reef Crystals salts.... I'm not sure what the whole distilled water comment is about...?

With the hanna you use the first reagent with 9 ml of rodi water or distilled. Then you add 1ml of tank water with the powder reagent.

When I read the instructions it read deionized water. I made the assumption that even ro di water still has calcium in it, as does regular tap.

I'm not sure if it makes a substantial difference, sort of like how much of reagent 2 can you spill or accidentally leave in the packet and still get a good rest.

I get test that are not consistent, just started using the DISTILLED to see if makes a difference.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
