What camera do you use?

Now I just use my phone but before, I had a Canon Rebel XTI with a Canon 100mm Macro and absolutely loved it.. Yea its a cheap camera but the lens made up for what the camera didn't. Plus I'm no professional photographer so I didn't need a $5000 camera body...

Canon 7D, here. Upgraded, to the Canon 7D, from a Canon Rebel Xt.

First to stand up for the Nikon crowd. I shoot a Nikon D300s

Sit back down! J/K

If you go with any of the Nikon or Canon DSLRs, you'll be just fine. They're both great manufacturers. Go to a camera shop and handle both of them. Go with the one that feels best, in your hands.

Nikon D300s here.

Canon 7d

Great camera for the price!

Its more than just great, haha

The 7d is AWESOME. I was reading a artical on it today, and some of the features on it, are from the 1d series, which is about 2-3 times the price of the 7d! its just simply awesome. Im hearing that there will be a 7d Mark II, but you know how that goes! haha!

I've got a 7D too - upgraded from a 40D which was an upgrade from a D60.. been playing with cameras for quite a while :)

I use either a wide 17-40mm F4 lens, or a 100mm F2.8 macro lens - both are L series. I've also got a "nifty-50", but rarely use that.

But you really can't go wrong with a digital SLR and a macro lens. If budget is a concern, put more of your budget in the lens. Lenses rarely change, they last a very long time with decent care, and they depreciate slowly if at all (the 17-40 costs more now than when I bought it several years ago - this never happens with electronics!), where as there is a new body every year with more bells, more whistles, and the old bodies drop in value - just like everything else electronic.

Also, electronics aren't a substitute for optics. Upgrading to the 17-40mm was more of an upgrade in image quality of my photos than upgrading from the D60 to the 40D, and those bodies are several generations apart.

Nikon D60, then on to a Nikon D90.

Like someone already said, best advice, go to a real camera store and play with them. Also check out lens prices before you commit to a manufacturer.
