Hi everyone,

So I know that Seachem's prime can not be mixed with copper as it becomes toxic to fish, but what other meds? Also are their any fish that become more sensitive to the meds if mixed with prime if it needs to be dosed to control ammonia?

Specifically can these these be combined:
Ruby Reef Rally mixed with Prime?
API General Cure mixed with Prime?

Thanks!

@4FordFamily will probably have some knowledge to share about this. I'm curious too. Usually something like biospira is preferred and prime is used for more of an emergency ammonia solution

Allegedly, copper is the only issue. However, I don't use it with any medication out of caution. This is probably paranoia, however. I utilize biospira as @Mjrenz has said to prevent ammonia build up, rather than detoxify ammonia. I agree with his assessment.

I agree with using a bacteria to have an established bio filter before, but in the event of needing to use Prime... it is allegedly safe if the water already has either Ruby Reef Rally or General Cure?

Generally yes, but the biospira is quick acting. If you do have ammonia levels rise you can add prime to make it safe. According to seachem, the prime won't inhibit bacteria from processing the ammonia so biospira can be added also

I called Ruby Reef, and they said that Rally should be safe with Prime. He said that he has no record of a negative interaction within 20 years. Granted he said there “could be a chance, but it should be fine.”

That sounds like a very standard answer lol. There's always a chance of a negative reaction to any medication or a combination of treatments. Just like people, there's that chance it would work perfectly for a million fish but one responds differently

If I'm using protozin waterline can I use seachem prime at the same time
