What can cause High Bromine(71.50ppm?)

This was from an ICP test a few weeks ago.

Where could it have originated from?

I use EVS 2 part and mag.

Occasionally Pickle Lime/kalc drip @ night.

Very Sparingly Red Sea trace elements ABCD


How would Corals react to that elevation of Bromine?

Bromine is needed for corals (coloration?). Some products you use may have bromine in them. Red Sea coral colors A has it in it. Could also be in your salt mix as well.

For this to happen typically one would need to dose it alone. Things like Red Sea colors has it in a ration to the other elements to be consumed appropriately. I also got high bromine in my last test. To which idk from what. I do know that recently they had trouble with their probe and were not testing it. So could be more trouble/inaccurate reading

There are some products out there that don’t really tell you what’s in them or have misleading labels. Purple up for coralline growth would be a good example as it contains iodine and calcium. Some people may dose other products that have either of those elements in it as well (Ca dosing being one of them). Or some products say Ca, Mg and trace elements without telling you what trace elements have been added and how much. Just trying to imagine a scenario where it could actually be that high; where potentially many products being added that contain it.

I believe purple up does state what it is on the description on the back. But as I noted earlier. Even if it is a mystery trace bottle, it still would not have that high of levels of bromide. It wouldn’t be in the interest of the company to add more of something that may nuke someone’s tanks.
 
I don’t think the values are that high off to be that concerned. Bromine in sea water is 65 ppm whereas the OP has 71 ppm. So dosing a bottled product or a salt batch could have caused this.

Even if it’s not too high, it would be advantageous to find out what’s the source, because it could get too high

Dosing of Red Sea coral colors A would be one thing. FWIW, ATI puts their ideal value at 70.5.
