What can I do to eliminate this?

Have a look on R2R, but I think cyano is the only one that will turn red. Diatoms will usually blow off with a baster, so that is unlikely. Check on R2R to make sure no one disagrees with that to be sure. But without many bubbles and the red color, it obviously sounds like it is most likely cyano. The MicroBacter Clean is a microbial culture. Maybe there is something similar, but I don't know. I know there are other methods for dinos, but that is the only one I have tried. Sorry I can't help you with those. Can you get Chemiclean?

And thanks for your advise.

No problem. Even after all these years I am still amazed by the internet. I just had breakfast Thursday morning and am probably close to 20,000 Km away, but we can work on this. I guess it's probably time for you to go to bed.

nassarius snails should do the trick. for my 220 gal i bought a diamond goby and he has been taking care of the sand ever since i got him. so u could try that. :]

Waiting for store to get in a pair of diamond gobys.

So took sample and shown the LFS exactly what I have and been told by both stores its Dinos..

First im trying the 3 day blackout, I know this may affect the corals and a possibility of losing some and ticking the rest off, fingers crossed.. next will be Dino X but I will research on hear for more information relating to beating Dinos. The joys of reefing.

Also can you or should you dose hydrogen peroxide 3% whilst doing the blackout? OR would this be done after the blackout?

i had dino which killed off almost all my sps ( $1,000 worth). I turned off my hydras for about a week and left my middle hyrda 52 hd run for about 4 hours a day so the tank had some light. When the dino died 90% of my sps died but my fish were fine. I didnt dose anything like dinox to kill it off. Just try a black out with SOME light on for a few hours and feed less. Thats when i switched from sps to euphyllias.

So completed a 3 day full blackout. Thought at the start it had worked.. now 4 days after and it has come back.. however there appears to be a little less but still covering the sandbed. Have been dosing hydrogen peroxide 3% for last 2 night 1ml/10gal so dosing 5ml every night and dosing 10ml of seachem stability in the morning. Lighting has dropped from 11 hours total to 8 hours.

Thoughts on the photos? Definitely doesn't look like dinos. Have tried medired and it did nothing..

Is it Diatoms, Dinos, or Cyano? Or something else? I did 1 course of Medi red for red slime but can say it did nothing.. you're advise and help would be greatly appreciated. I dont have a microscope to view in more detail but hope these pictures can help.

Tank is now 8 months old.
