I would like some advice about what color paint would work for the back of my new 180g aquarium.. I am thinking about painting it white or a real light blue to reflect light better but I just don't now if that matters or is harmful.. any advice would be appreciated.

I don't really have any advice but sometimes I get the urge to try it. The nice tank that got me thinking about it was SunnyX's reef where he just had the wall behind the tank in his pictures. It looked clean but not sure if it would look too artificial painting the background itself. I don't think it will do harm..

For fish only, black or blue. For reef, black.

Black shows less growth on glass. If you plan on never cleaning your back glass, then definitely black. It will contrast less with coralline and uncovered areas.
