What color skimmate should I have

I'm getting a reef octopus soon and want to gain some more knowledge on protein skimmers. Should my skimmate be wet and light or dark and thick? My tank only has a few fish for now and no corals, but already have a plan to get some

Your choice. The two popular types of skimming are wet and dry. Essentially, wet skimming fills up much quicker and works faster but you have to empty the cup typically 2-3 times a week, maybe more. Dry skimming may only have to be dumped once or twice a week. Wet will usually be a bit lighter and watery, dry will be dark and thick. It’s really up to your preference and what you can deal with. Personally I think wet is more effective but I haven’t done an experiment or anything.
