What contributes to the pulse in Xenias?

This was years ago, so I don't really remember. I've seen the short ones and the long ones in other people's tank and they pulse hard. But whenever I had them they would just sway left and right and not really pulse.

Mine do pulse always (Pink) , and spread but not in a really rapid manner, its a gradual growth. Not like my Kenya Trees lol....I still sit back and watch them often.

Good point, mine are definitely in a low flow area.

They pulse specifically to circulate water, hence in fast flowing water they do not pulse. If you want a similar coral that handles moderate flow try anthelia.

Not sure if any scientific proof has been added over the last 20 years .
but there was a lot to mystery of why they actually pulse .
no definite reason as if that time but some thought in low flow areas it would pulse to circulate water around the polyps that also to bring food in .
