So I I’ve my qt setup and salinity is right at 1.020, and copper level is 2.08. Now this is normally fine as my lfs keep his copper at 5+. My worry is I’m getting a shipment from live aquaria and they don’t have copper in their systems, so is the 2.08 too high to start at??

I doubt your LFS has his copper at 5, that would be twice the safe level of Copper Power and 10 times the recommended level of cupramine. Which copper are you using?

Most posts I've read say start copper power at 1.0 and slowly work your way up to 2.0 over 3-4 days. I would lower it to 1.0 assuming you are using copper power.

You are using chelated copper, like Copper Power, I assume? And measuring with a Hanna?

I would start at 1 or below, then work up. It does depend a little on what fish you are trying to medicate.

There is absolutely no reason to run copper at 5ppm.

I have tested his water and the Hanna meter flashes 5, I assume that means it’s above 5 so yes it’s that high LoL. Another member has seen the results from testing his water @Fishfinder. This is not my first time as all my other fish have been through this same qt but like I said the fish started at a much higher copper level at the lfs.

I am using copper power and testing with a Hanna. I am adding 4 lyretail anthis, 2 mandarins, and 6 talbot damsels.

I guess I’ll be emptying some water to lower the copper concentration.

I know people are often saying to start out low and build up.
I don't know if anyone has proven one way or another if it's nessasary.
The maker of Copper Power does not include that in the user directions, for whatever that's worth. Personally start out and keep mine at 2.0 with no ill affects.
