I apologize in advance because I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I am wondering what the name of this coral is? Also will the hermits damage it?

to me it looks like a frogspawn.. but please don't take my word seriously.. i'm just a newby lol.. but the little bulbs on the tip remind me of it. as for the hermits.. i really don't know

Thank you everyone for the quick response. I think you have hit the nail on the head. I'm new and don't think I'm ready for LPS coral yet.

Are they difficult to care for

They're not too difficult, although it is a step up from, say zoanthids. If it looks like it doing well in your tank, keep it.

Some other easier to care for corals include: star polyps, zoanthids/palys, toadstool leathers, mushrooms, most finger leather corals, gorgonians, anthelia (invasive), Xenia (invasive), and Kenya trees (invasive)

With many of these soft corals it's reccomended you feed some sort of phytoplankton a few times per week as they are filter feeders. With the galaxea, you can offer a small piece of shrimp or two via tweezers 1/2 times per week.

Thank you. Will I need to dose at all for the galaxea if it is the only lps in my tank or will water changes be enough to support it?

IMG_1878.JPG IMG_1879.JPG I got a 3 for $25 deal at my lfs the other 2 are Xenia and a small colony of a mix of zoas.

IMG_1876.JPG Also what is this clear thing on the frag? Looks like it has a hole on the top and I thought I saw it squeeze itself once.

Definitely Galaxea. I have some that look exactly like that. As AquariumSpecialtyDane said, though, they have nasty sweeper tentacles so keep it away from other stuff! Mine stung the absolute crap out of my pulsing Xenia. It lost all but one cluster of polyps from the attack and therefore it was too stressed to survive the move to my new place.
