What Coral?

What coral did you think you would never like or have and turned out to love? What coral did you think you would love and now hate? Why?
Xenia and GSP

I mean, it doesn’t count as a coral but clams were something I used to hate because they just “sit there doing nothing”. I now have 2 clams that add so much more to my SPS heavy tank. Just watching them feed off oils when the fish get fed is so mesmerising.

A coral I thought I’d love but actually hate… My Acropora tenuis, they’re bland and don’t have much colour at all under blue lighting. If I found a beautiful brightly coloured one then I’d grab it but unfortunately the deep blue’s just dont cut it for me.

Zoanthids! Hated them now have a tank full, when I got into reefing in 2005 the selection of mushrooms was awesome greens reds fuzzy's purples blues we had bright orange sponges red sea whip things and coco worms aka Christmas tree worms

But zoanthids ugh yuk those plain yellow spots spread out on a nice bit of purple coralline covered rock (oh yeah we had better rocks even for frags back then) either a plain yellow or an ocre type colour was the choice of zoa's here, but now they're one of the most colourful corals if not the most colourful and I have a tank full of them, just not all the ones I started out with unfortunately,

only the more dominant ones well for my tank at least :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I used to like the corals that moved the most....bow I'm an acro guy. Still like the movement but the growth and coloring of acros is fun...slow, but fun.
