What corals are best for beginners and why?

Weird. Moderate light, moderate flow, and never had any issues with them losing color or failing to encrust fairly quickly.

This goes to show that there are not really "easy" corals per say. Every tank is different and while one person can grow seriatopora and cyphastrea but can't keep zoas is a common thing. Recommended easy corals are just that, a recommendation. On another note, cyphastrea was a weed for us, grew too fast.

Agreed.

That's why I don't really like recommendations – especially not for newbs.

IMO, decide what corals you like – those will be the ones you're most willing to learn about and do what it takes for.

Corals you learn about first and then do what it takes for tend to do really well. If that coral is your first, then it's a beginner coral.

(But I will make anti-recommendations. Nobody needs to start with corals that are known pests or known to be difficult to house under the impression that they're ideal for beginners for some unexplained reason.)
