So currently I have a 20high tank with 3 small fishes. I want to get into corals now. What are some good looking corals for beginners? And for dosing, is it something I have to watch for cautiously? Will the corals die if the calcium, magnisium levels are not met? How easily do corals die? I orginally just wanted a fowlr tank, buuuuuutt corals are so much more fascinating. I sometimes have thoughts about just having corals without fish. How much water changes would I do without fish?

If water parameters are not kept then corals can lose color and will be overall unhealthy which will lead to death. Not all corals are so demanding. Soft corals can easily be kept without any dosing and some lps could be kept with regular water changes. I have a 7g tank that I'm keeping my zoas and mushrooms in and they are doing great with water changes alone.

Lps and sps dominated tank will need dosing as they need parameters stable to grow their hard skeleton. Stick with softies and you should be good to go if you don't want to dose.

However if sps and lps are what you want dosing will likely be needed and its not hard to figure out. There is a treasure trove of information at your finger tips (Internet and R2R) Also before you dive into the awesome world of corals is your tank ready? What lighting are you using? Is it sufficient and what filtration are you running? The more info you give us the better we can help. Happy reefing!

by softies, you also mean zoanthids and polyps and mushrooms?
