I've had my 6-line wrasse in my JBJ 28 gal cube for over a year with my 2 clowns. He was nice and fat, active and stood up to the clowns (and vice versa)

Then I noticed for the past several months, his stomach was shrinking. He had a little indent on his underside. I thought maybe the clowns wasn't letting him eat much.. so I upped the feeding a little more and tried to direct feed with a baster (he wasn't having that). He did eat, so I know he was eating.. still maybe not enough?

His colors looked good, and he was active, past week or so, the indent on his belly sunk in more and I upped the feedings more- fed more frozen food.. Then suddenly, I noticed he was gone from the tank and cloudy water yesterday. I knew he died when I didn't see him. I gave my tank a good water change.

My clowns are bright, fat and active as usual- nothing's amiss with them (and I had them for 3 years now)

Water chemistry is all good. Ammonia and nitrate (nitrite?) is slightly up, which is due to the death of the wrasse, but prior to that, all water testing was good. I'll have to do another WC to get that count down.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what has happened to my 6-line? I haven't added anything to the tank, except a few zoa's. I did have a cyano outbreak, but his belly was showing signs weeks before that, so I do not think the crash was related lots of water changes. upped water flow and reducing light cleared the cyano up in a few weeks- smothered most of my corals at this time)

I'd think if he had a parasite of sorts, my clowns would have the same?

It sounds like he had an intestinal worm, which would cause a sunken belly. Another symptom is stringy white poop. Ever see that hanging out of him or floating around in the water?

Most likely your clowns have it too. I would start soaking their food with Seachem Metroplex & Seachem Focus to clear it up. For at least a couple of weeks.

thanks for your reply!

I have not noticed any white string poops, no.
Should I get the Mtroplex and focus and use it anyway?

I would, yes. It can't hurt anything.
