Hi Y'all.

I added my first Acro a week ago & noticed something poking its head out of the base & retracting itself super quick.
I thought it was going to be a flatworm but what came out of it is something that looks more like miniature shrimp...is it an amphipod?

I would love some help identifying what this is & if I should be worried for my corals.

Thank you all!

Attached below is a very low res screenshot of the critter, but here's a link to a few videos which are easier to see.
On 7515.mov file you can see where it was hiding under the acro base...what the heck?!! (at 7 seconds you can see the head pop out)

Thanks everyone! Now for the fun part...What kind of fish or inverts eat amphipods?
I have a nano tank so something like a mandarin goby is out of the question

nano being ? gallons?

Yes, my tank is 13.5 gallons
I have a 15 on my desk and have a very small leopard wrasse that would love those amphipods - will need to watch its size over the year or two tho

I agree that they are gammarid amphipods.
They are considered harmless clean-up crew, although I think they can become a nuisance to certain corals (certainly to macroalgae, since they consume them) if over-populated.

Most fish will eat them unless they are very tiny fish (<1.5"), but amphipods typically hide during the day and are active at night to avoid being out when fish are typically more active.

I don't know enough from research or have enough experience with nano tanks to give recommendations on amphipod population control.
