What did you learn the hardway

Most of us learned a few things the hard and sometimes expensive way. I'm interested in those stories.

I will kick off:

I used to have a hang on skimmer, and it leaked during a short holiday. I had to buy a new laminate floor in my old house ;Brb

Nothing in saltwater just yet
but me being longer in freshwater than saltwater
I used to breed angels... accidentally tho
First attempt i found out they laid eggs on the filter.
It was late at night so i thought I would transfer them to the QT tank tomorrow but in the morning, the eggs got eaten, Second attempt: I took it out to early and 90% of the eggs were unfertile or had fungi.
the rest well got trapped in gravel when hatched and died. 3rd attempt: the fry got sucked into filter and died.
4th attempt: I realized I had no fry food and the baby brine shrimp were hatched too early and died off.
Egg yolk made a mess and commercial foods were too big...
5th attempt I was so frustrated so I was prepared this time:
2 spongefilters and lighting just in ime for transferring.. raised brine shrimp in time and got some commercial foods later 75% hatch rate and sucess finally
