hello i am wanting to start an anemone propagation tank and i have read all over but i cant find out exactly what anemones need to survive. like do i have to dose anything or add any special supplement for them? what kind of filtration like should i just have a skimmer and fug or just bio ballz? how much flow? and i already have a light for it, its a 36" current nova extreme pro. i will be using that until i can afford a 4 foot light.

my tank is 60 gallons 4 feet long 2 feet deep and 1 foot high

Feed them meaty foods like squid or krill. A decent light is needed too. Refugium never hurts as it will help with feeding, nutrient export and water stability. A good Skimmer will help as well.

what about dosing or trace elements? and is a skimmer only needed?

Clean water, a stable mature tank, decent light, and they like to be fed once in a while.

most need a good light the flow differs from species to species and feed them once a week chunks of squid krill silversides basically the same stuff your fish will eat

What type of anemones are you planning on propagating?

I am guessing that the OP would be doing E. quadricolors -- since they are one of the 2 hosting anemones that naturally split (( the other being a Mag, but that one would be best skipped )); I have yet to hear of any of the other hosting anemones being propagated through sexual reproduction.

I have noticed that anemones do react to low levels of Mag, but regular water changes with a quality salt should take care of that.

E. quadricolors are rock dwelling anemones, and don't require a ton of flow.
