About Red Sea test kits...

Some of the provided syringes have red tips, some have blue. And on the instruction cards, some show red tips, some show blue and others show black tips.

Is the tip color relevant or can I use any color tip?

Different tip sizes can only potentially impact drop sizes, nothing else. I do not know if the different colors are different sizes, but generally the tip is not important except possibly to make smaller drops with a very pointy tip. The volume of the tip is not a factor.

In general, at least in medical applications, the different colors usually denote the gauge of the needle or the type of tip the syringe has (luer-lock, slip, catheter, eccentric, etc). There isn’t an industry standard for colors, though (there is for the types of syringe tips/fittings), so each brand has a different color scheme.

If I remember correctly, the different colors were for the different tests. Likely so there wasn't any cross contamination by using one syringe for the different solutions. The red tip was for calcium, the blue for alkalinity, and the white/clear for magnesium. Or at least that's how I perceived the kit to work.

Thank you everyone.
