What do I do with my fish? QT vs Display tank

Fish got ich, treating them - they are clearing up there's only like 3 days of treatment left how ever my Tomini tang is doing horrible. He is just laying down in one corner. No where near as active as he used to be. He does not have any ich on him. I started treating him when he only had 1 spot of it. I think he is very very stressed for some reason. What should I do keep him in qt to fix this problem in a controlled environment or put him back in the display tank which is less stressful and more similar to a natural environment, and let the problem resolve its self?

He just reach an inch in length so maybe the treatment is too strong for him or something like that because he is only a baby or something?

Is your tank going fallow?

If so, don’t risk introducing diseases in your main tank for 1 fish - you’ll just have to requarantine them all over again.

Why don’t you put the tomini tang in a small 5-10 gallon tank with an air stone and feed the fish multiple times a day? Baby tangs need a lot of food.

Your main tank. Did you have a disease inside of it? I’m assuming you removed the fish and are treating them in a QT and allowing the main tank to sit fishless for 76 days to allow parasites to starve off. That’s fallow.

Probably stressed and hungry, as stated above. What else is in the qt with the tang? How large is the qt tank? What are you treating with? How long have they been in the qt tank? Are you going fallow (fishless) and for how long on the display tank?

No not exactly. There were 3 fish I left in and all the rest came out. I left an engineer goby because I thought he would respond well to treatment because he is a scale-less fish and a yellow watchman goby. I left him because I didn't watch to separate him from the pistol shimp because the shrimp relies on him for food or else he will go after my snails because not all the food reaches the bottom of the tank for the shrimp. Lastly I left a damsel in because I couldn't net him out.

The damsel broke out in ich but I'm treating the display tank as well and they seem to be doing great. The damsel has no more ich as of now...

If you really want to be successful in eradicating ich, all the fish needs to come out. Realistically, any fish you treat will just get reinfected once they enter the tank where the disease is, since the disease wasn’t properly eradicated.

If you want to simply manage the disease without treatment, you’d best get a UV and even dose h202 initially to kill the free swimmers for 6 months with an auto doser.

he's with a coral beauty and a pair of clown fish in a 10 gallon. I had at the beginning the was a firefish too but he died and I think it was because he had something wrong with his gills anyway. They were pink and all swollen. I'm treating with Hikari ich-x and it's working well. I also do a 20% water change every day because that is what the instructions say. They have been in there since fed 28. So a week. but all the ich seems cleared.

I know it's not the best but I couldn't even if I wanted too. The damsel is EXTREMELY aggressive to the Tomini. It would not end well quarantining both together but I'm treating both tank and its clear and too keep it that was I was planning on keeping them in quarantine for another month or two while treating the display to ensure that the ich was gone. I'm not planning on added them till im SURE that its fine.

Okay. First off, if it is only ich (I am not doubting you, just could be more than one thing going on), it will be in the display and remain in the display as long as fish remain in the display. Therefore, you will have to do either a fallow period in main display and qt/treat all incoming fish for the future or do a ich management (immunity management) system. Either is fine.

There are some great articles on both types of systems. Searc on here the on the forums for how to go about handling these systems. Good insight and procedures.

I see you are treating both tanks. I assume you have no inverts in the main display then? No live rock?

haha... I have a lot of inverts, a good amount of coral, and I would say really good live rock with a good diversity of bacteria and other organisms. I'm using reef rally pro with something else. Someone recommended me it on another thread and its working well.
