As a newbie I'd love to see an explanation of the various banners on members avatars. I'm always trying to assess how much knowledge and experience the member giving me advice possesses. Which ones are earned? Which are bought? What have they done in order to receive these designations? Perhaps it's all explained somewhere and someone could tell me where to look?

This thread is a bit dates so there may be a few banners/badges that aren't in this list, but I think you'll find an explanation for most of them here:

Of course, feel free to ask if you have additional questions or would like further clarification.

I wouldn't go by the badges to determine who to listen to. I suggest asking to see people's tanks, find one you like, and replicate it from their advice. Otherwise you will get a tornado of conflicting advice.

I was actually just listening to one of the latest BRS/WWC videos and their 1st tip was this

Compared to “social media sites” (of which i have dropped off completely) there are very very few rude, contradictive, trolls
regardless of the banners, you will find most provide support, and or tell you there opinion is based on experience and welcome others to support or refute it.
You will also find there are several experts i.e., in chemistry or disease who we all acknowledge know their elbows for their ankles

So the banners are regional club members, or demonstrate their contribution. The only “bought” banner are those who have contributed to support the overhead of the site.
At least that is my experience and others my disagree - smile

And welcome
