My Achilles that I have in qt has 2 dark spots on him. He’s been qt for 13 days, in copper power for 12 of those days. Anybody know what this is ?

The pics aren't clear enough for me to pinpoint exactly what spots we are talking about. Are the spots on the first pic on the fins what we are talking about? Could be flukes and a 5min FW dip will confirm if that's the case.

The fish is definitely stressed as well. Very discolored. What size QT is the Achilles in? Any medications other than copper?

IME when Achilles look like that it’s velvet or sometimes very bad flukes. The stress colors are severe on that one.

The spots are on the first pic on the fin second pic in the middle. Only copper power in the tank. He’s in a 40 gal Breeder with a 1.5” Naso that get a long fine. Hes probably 4.5”. He’s been discolored since I started copper. Should I do a fwd right now or should I wait until Tuesday which would be 2 weeks that he’s been in copper? @HotRocks @4FordFamily #reefsquad

First pic looks a lot like velvet in the beginning before they explode and cover the fish.

The 2nd and 3rd are hard to tell. Could be a number of issues.

What level of copper power?

Is he breathing heavily? Acting lethargic? Darting around the tank?

He’s breathing normal, eating well. Every now and then only really when I’m close to the tank he darts but it’s not all the time. I put a small power head inside the tank abs he like to hang out right in front of it. He’s not acting lethargic.

He’s had that mark in the first pic since the day I put him in copper. If it was velvet wouldn’t it of covered the fish by now?

Forgot to mention what level the copper at. Copper power is therapeutic at 2.5. It’s right under that at 2.43

Why are you treating the fish? - he/she do not looks go well with the copper treatment IMO

With Achilles tangs there’s virtually no other option. They are immensely susceptible to even minor/otherwise moderately dangerous parasites.

What is the tank temperature? Also, your copper levels are high. I’d reduce to 2.0 for chelated copper (copper power, copper safe).

It’s good to see the fish is eating. Achilles tangs discolor if they’re too hot as well. In QT I keep the temp no warmer than 78. I shoot for this in my display tanks as well. Much above 80 they can lighten up. They also do this temporarily sometimes when stressed or being aggressive.

The temperature stays between 79-80

Any injuries or areas of redness? I can’t tell well in photos. Low oxygen conditions also lighten these guys.

No injuries or redness just has those 2 dark spots. Plenty of oxygen. I have a hang on the back filter, small power head and 2 sponge filters

And all start (the dark spot and the stress colouration) when you start the copper treatment?

So I never did a fwd but I did dose his food with metro and focus. He is also going on 11 days in prazi I lost the small Naso from what to look like flukes right when I started all of this. He doesn’t have any more spots but he is still discolored. Should I continue the prazi treatment for a full 14 days or should I stop the treatment? I was curious if he has gone threw to much medicine. He’s been in qt for almost a month and a half. Almost the whole time in medicine first copper power, then a week of prazi, then a week of meto/focus and now he’s in his last week of prazi.

Hanging out in front of a powerhead is typically a symptom of velvet starting.
