I seem to be growing a lot of it and having to harvest. What do you all do with your excess? Throw it away? Seems kinds like a waste to just toss it.

Back when I ran a refugium I'd just throw out the excess chaeto. If you're worried about wasting it you can offer it up for free in whatever local reefing/saltwater groups you're part of.

If you don't want to throw it away, join some local reef groups online or on social media and give it away to locals... or even charge a couple bucks. Some LFS will also take it and give you a couple bucks or store credit.

Toss it .
I have tried feeding it to the tangs and foxface but takes forever for them to eat a small amount .
some lfs will take it and offer a small credit but barely worth bagging it up and driving 1.5 hours to the lfs .

I thought Chaeto was bad for their digestive
My fish seem to be fine. Their bodies are so thick with good shape. I think they are good with eating Chaeto. However mileage may vary on different fish ;)

I give away all I can, and I compost the rest in my garden. Your plants will enjoy the phosphorus and nitrogen that chaeto sucked in from your reef.

I'm trying to create a look like the moss that hangs from the Cyprus trees in the swamps. When it was clean I used to sell it but now it's is so full of life I hate to even harvest it. The chaeto in one of my sumps is full of micro Brittle stars.
