On my main tank and frag tank I run a heater controller and multiple heaters with their own thermostats. I tune the heaters as much as I can to control the heating and the controller is there for a fail safe and also provided alerts. I've been thinking about getting an additional controller for each tank for another level of safety. What do you run, something like this?

I have DD heater controller as primary control for the actual heaters, and that’s plugged into Apex to monitor and ultimately turn everything off if the temperature goes up

I wouldn’t trust Apex as primary control, I’ve had experience were the temperature probe failed and left the heaters on and fortunately I caught it, whilst 2000 miles away and turned them off.

I use a Ranco as my primary heater controller with my Apex as the backup failsafe. I set up an Apex alarm to notify me if my temperatures get out of whack. I Also keep a BNIB heating element on standby should my active heating element fail.

How long have you had your DD heater controller? I'm getting ready to buy controllers for my two FInnex 900W heaters and then use my APEX as my fail-safe. Any quirks I should know about on the DD heater controller?

I added a catch for the possibility of a failed Apex probe. I get a temp alarm if my tank drops below 75, and the heater outlet shuts off it the probe goes below 70.

Also, do they have a U.S. version? I can only find U.K. power version. thank you for your help here.

Multiple Eheims on Ranco for me. Ranco is industrial grade and the Eheims are about as good as it gets for Hobby stuff.

Redundancy 1: Ranco
Rendunancy 2: Eheim Thermostats
Redundancy 3: Multiple Eheims so that even if the Ranco fails and so does one heater, it is not enough to overheat anything.
