Anyone else start getting twitchy when things are going too smoothly? My tank has been running smoothly for a while now, i.e., no nuisance outbreaks, everything stable and growing well. But I want soooo badly to get in there and tinker! I started this hobby with a neglected tank that needed rehabilitation and upgrades, and found a lot of joy in researching why things were going wrong or what could be improved. Is the tank perfect now? No. Am I jinxing things by posting it here? Likely yes.

What do you do when things are going smoothly with your tank? Can you restrain yourself from trying to tinker with it? Or do you wander the aisles of your LFS looking for something new to add to the tank?

I hear you!! I’m finally at a place similar to you and going stir crazy!!
Finally broke down and bought a fighting conch for $12.00.
Since I’ve an all in one I’ve also been researching HOB and under tank sumps.
we’ll see....:

I started a second tank! But, if you’re looking for something to do, add a pistol shrimp. That little bugger will keep you on your toes! Lol

Research new things to buy. Being bored makes me want to spend $$$
Exactly I decided 5FAADBA9-8239-4B8E-AB78-3745D08E1460.png to buy 1200 amphipods. Want mire critters. And bought a Kraken screen top. Doubt any fish jump. Had same 3 for several months. Mostly bought cause those tops look good.

Just observe :-) , and may be slowly clean the equipment. I tend to forget yearly cleanup of power heads . Proactively changing my old heaters are also a good thing . Can also frag stuff and help out local reefers

The number one thing you do when things are going well is to run a common api ammonia test on your reef, then things won’t go well and the boredom will stop. You will find something that needs fixing then

My experience... cross fingers, pray, whatever it is you do for good luck.

Frrl tho. Take a breath and enjoy a bit.

I am interested in the hob or sump for an aio. If you expand on that topic more in another thread please tag me.

Really admire those that can keep status quo.

For me, I’m always pushing the envelope and wanting to try new things - calcium reactor, light shades, new Copperband butterfly, more torches, etc.
