what do you do with frags in your DT?

When putting frags in your DT, do you a) mount the frag plug to the rock, or b) take coral off frag plug, and mount directly to rock.

Just got to wondering what people did, when I saw the thread/poll on IC gel and frag plugs.

If I am propogating for trade, I leave a frag on the plug and place in frag rack, and then mount the rest on rock, directly. If I don't plan on trading it, I take it all off the plug and mount the coral directly to the rock. Less of a bulge this way, especially when the coral has engulfed a piece of rock or skeleton already.

i voted too were both in chattanooga so you can ship our cookies together lol. i glue frag plug and all to the rock after it is encrusted across the plug i leave it on the frag rack until it is fully encrusted

its like theres a bump from the frag and then just FLAT from the grow out

Hey now. Flatness is a good thing.

I usually glue it all down. That makes it easier when I pull it for a frag later.

I like things so that they grow and take shape of the rock, not lil squares or lil circle shapes all over. so i take mine off and put them on my main rocks.

I take frags of my corals and glue them to rubble. Then wait 2-3 weeks and give them away at my SEASL meetings for the club raffles. Usually 3 per month or about 30 frags a year. It is how I support the club.

On a side note, most raffles per frag only generate about 5-15 $1 tickets. So people get a good deal.

I would rather have a fresh cut frag but i have done it both ways. It just depends if i can find the right spot for something on a plug or not.

I normally use a small piece of lava rock for some, since it's so easy to drill a hole into. I don't want to damage the frag, so I leave it on the plug. Did someone say cookies???

i lay my frags on the sand bed in teh DT

I get a gob of AquaMend and squeeze it around the plug and stick the whole thing to a rock. Coraline will grow over the AquaMend and it won't even be noticed.

it depends... sps get glued directly to rocks, everything else stays on plugs

I'm waiting to find out what flavor of cookie before I vote!!! It depends on if the frag has totally encrusted the plug or can be removed without damaging the coral. If it's fully encrusted, I break off the "leg" of the plug, or if I can find a hole that the plug will fit snugly into, I just poke it in the hole. I agree that I don't like the look of the "square" or "round" plugs in my tank though.

I used to glue all my frags directly to rock, but have since found that if I want to move them, due to overgrowth of other corals or whatever, it's harder to do.
