isn't it just salt ?Never put it back to ur tank. Mop it up or sweep them away.
isn't it just salt ?
Will cause osmotic shock
Did you already know? Or were you thinking this would negate his claim?![]()

Osmotic shock or osmotic stress is a sudden change in the solute concentration around a cell, causing a rapid change in the movement of water across its cell membrane. Under conditions of high concentrations of either salts, substrates or any solute in the supernatant water is drawn out of the cells through osmosis.
Yes and no. It would depend on where the salt falls and how much creep. Considering reef water isn't just salt and water, osmotic shock can effect micro organisms. I wouldn't risk it, you justified with the dust and contaminants as well.Well, I have always thrown it away, just because it doesn't dissolve easily, plus could have dust/contaminants in it. Not sure I buy the Osmotic shock argument, as it would take a BUNCH of salt, or a teeny, tiny amount of water to create that kind of osmotic pressure gradient, but I still don't think it is a good idea to sweep it back into the tank.
