opinion on my sump setup. I’m open minded on suggestions on what I should tweak to make it more efficient

I'd get that brick out and add a marine pure block. Other than that looks good.

It all looks good to me, very neat and tidy.

I would keep an eye on the Brightwell NO3 brick, I had 6 including 2 replacements and they all broke down and caused an awful sandy mess in my sump. You will probably start to see it deteriorating in a few months or if you move it around

They do work so no issues with that as such, I’ve also got a Marine Pure block that’s fine.

Having tried them both, I’ve now got 6 litres of Seachem Matrix which is very good. It’s basically fancy stone so won’t ever break down or need replacing. I’ve got mine in large mesh zip bags but you can drop it straight into the sump on its own.

How long did it take for the no3 brick take for you to help with nitrates? Because I’ve had it in over a month and a half and nothing?

Did you ‘seed it’ with bacteria ?

I soaked it in microbacter7 first and I think it started working pretty much within a few weeks.

I wouldn’t buy them again though, Matrix is much better especially if you use plenty of it. You can’t have to much filtration

That clip on light is going to rust and the return line tubing may grow some algae in it from the light. I would swap the clear tube for black and I would remove the reflector and clamp from the light. You can hang the light from a hook, I zip tied mine to the hook to insure it wasn't able to fall in the sump. I don't know what type of bulb you have in there but if you remove the reflector you may want to replace it if it's type that outputs light in all directions with one that is designed to just output light from the top.

Looks great! Some comments also related to light overflow. With the light pointing the way it is you are going to get algae growing on your skimmer body inside which will necessitate more frequent cleaning to work efficiently. Want more of a beam facing down so the black baffles can block it.

Looks really nice. Great job. Only thi g i would do is move your filter bags to say the same side as brick and let algae have its own area for nutrients.
