What do you have you a80 set on for intensity, color, duration, and distance from water line? I'm trying to find a happy place for my nano aquarium.

Thanks for the link. I have had it at 50% so I guess I’ll crank it up a little.
Its a 15W light, not really adequate for 7G. You need at least 3W for SPS, and you dont want to run on 100% , so aim for a light with 5x tank volume. For 7 G tank, a160 is best

I happen to have one of those, but honestly it seems way too strong. I'm not using a par meter or anything though. Just watching the "behavior" of the coral, if I increase above 60% on the a80 the polyps will retract. I will try out the a160 and report back. What exactly is the a80 used for then? Thought it would be adequate for something 10 gallons or under.

If you're just keeping softies or lps corals the a80 should be fine. If you start venturing into sps you'll want to break out the a160

Got ya! makes sense! So if just keeping softies / LPS should I run it around 70-80% on a 12 hour period about 6" above the water line?

sounds good. if you find that you're having algae issues, shorten it to 10 hours

It actually should be fine.

I think it’s good to remind folks , sps , softie has nothing to do with light levels. Cyphasteria is an sps and prefers low light as does many leptospirosis. I have some zoas that never opened next to other zoas till I added more Light.

Incomplete but verified by D riddle. (Its an aggregate of his and others work.)

You’re actually better off in a way using your eye and judgement. Or you need to know this much about every coral you buy.
