I'm not posting this question so we can feel good but I could use your feedback about the community, software, etc. to help us as we continue to get the word out about our community.

So would you mind giving us some good feedback?

Thanks!

I'm new here, but been a member of the other big reef site for a while. Here are the key differences I've seen so far.

- Having Randy on staff is a big plus for you guys. There are a lot of people on both sites that are great with Chem and great at helping with Chem related issues, but let's call a spade a spade here. Randy is flat out one of the best in the business. I don't think he misses a thread and continuously answers everything from the most basic (which could have been read in a sticky) to in depth Triton analysis.

- The encouragement from the staff to get involved. There are posts everywhere, encouraging users to create content. Be it through contests, requests like this one, or just general, "Hey guys post this".

- Xenforo. Absolutely one of my favorite things about this website. Xenforo can be as involved or uninvolved as the user wants it to be and every user can customize the content/look/layout to their liking. Why should I need quote a post and type "+1" when the ability to hit the like button has been around for over 5 years now. A few of the other forums I mod run it, and it's just all around great software.

- If/when I become a supporter I feel like my money would be going somewhere, towards something where I would see tangible benefits, beyond just operating costs. Be it hiring more staff, helping obtain more prizes for contests, helping pool money to become a "sponsor" on other vendor website...etc.

- The contests. Sure you guys could run contests and just give out free crap everywhere, but you go beyond that. Yes I know I'm going to need to go like a facebook page somewhere, whoopidy do. Outside of that though, most of the contests are driven to steer content. IE..."you get a bonus entry in the contest for creating a new thread on the forums".

- Lastly, there is more then one way to skin a deer. Sure we all need the basic tools to accomplish said task, but I've found the general user base here to be a little more accepting and a little less black and white with how people handle their tanks.

Again this is just from my perspective as I don't mean any ill will or negativity to those where I came from, as I truly learned a lot there. I think both sites are great, but I really like what is going on here and plan to stick around and help it grow (mostly from the clowns and nem closet).

Friendly people, beautiful fish and corals, tons of knowledge and the list goes on. It really is a great site with great people. Some other sites aren't as active, aren't as friendly and are much harder to navigate. The layout of the site is pretty easy to get around and that's great for someone like me who isn't as tech savvy as others.

I like how freedom of thought is allowed here. Folks are allowed to present conflicting point-of-views, and staff generally do not take sides on the issue. None of this "it's our way or the highway" approach.

This resonates with me for one simple reason. Perhaps best explained by this quote from Evelyn Beatrice Hall: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

The mobile site is awesome! Its all I use since the update. I enjoy knowing if I have a question I know I will get a answer here, and I can also help out others as well.

First, it's a large, active community with lots of eye candy.

But honestly, what drew me here in the first place, was the buy, sell, trade section. I really love being able to see a picture of a really cool Limited Edition Rainbow Whatever, and then being able to use the same forum to search openly for somebody to trade with or buy one from. Why would I want to see THE COOLEST CORAL IN THE WORLD but not be able to openly try to obtain one myself? That was my problem with other forums. Likewise, I don't think anybody should be persecuted for trying to sell something that they want to part with.

Thanks for bringing the feedback system back. This just makes the buy, sell, trade section even better.

I ll make it simple...
1-many well knowledgeable and helpful members on here, especially Randy is active to any Chem questions.
2-staffs and Rev r great people, "treat others like treating urself" kinda people.
3-working hard to fix things as addresses. I related to itrader.
4-fs section has variety of goodies.
5-i love eye candy showoff threads...

The new software update is really nice. easy to navigate and the like button is really nice! I like the app as well. So easy to keep up with replies and to ask questions on the go.
The people here are awesome! I don't know how yall did it, but there's no judgment, just an acceptance of everybody and healthy debates on differing opinions. This is always my first stop when making a decision I'm not sure about, or to double check something I was told elsewhere.

edit to add: I like your fb page as well. I often find topics of interest posted there that I would have missed otherwise.

I like the software a lot.
The staff is much friendlier.
The knowledge base is growing, allowing for more answers to the tougher questions.
The owner (and staff) actually gives a hoot about its members.
And R2R puts in an effort to keep up with the times.

And this is coming from an RC Team Member. ;)

If I may... and I while agree with almost everything that was already said... I would like to recognize a team of folks that, for me anyways, make what I like most about R2R... and that's the "rank-and-file" members of the reefsquad that help new and current members find answers to questions, welcome new members, and reach out to other SME (subject matter experts) to assist with finding answers to questions but also share their expertise and knowledge in a meaningful and respectful manner. IMHO no other site out there has a better team of people so willing to help out, and to me that makes R2R stand out above all others!

This. Not to mention, people are rarely if ever belittled, this place is less "cliquey", lots of very knowledgeable members across a broad spectrum of topics, high participation, the entire culture is friendly, among other things.

If there is a segment in this hobby, this forum "has a guy (or gal) for that". Maybe two or three subject matter experts for every conceivable query!

I like how friendly most people are and that even the really knowledgeable people are not arrogant or condescending. Also all the great giveaways are awesome

Randy is here, can upload photos without photobucket, people are not nasty on this forum, it has enough traffic now to get good information. I forgot about contests! Those are fun.

Thanks for the feedback so far! You all are amazing!

1. ability to edit posts afterwards instead of full lock. Good for syntax adjust, spelling tone etc. alter your legacy.

2. fosters healthy debate w no heavy hands, drives the hobby. People here self regulate really well even if disagreeing staunchly I don't recall any early ref stoppages lol

3. I like to post and read where Randy is active

4. The posts from seasoned reefers are very accurate with today's reef knowledge imo

5. can link to other places as reference as needed. In other places, knowledge they afford to others is highly limited by having intra board politics prevent valid linking to valid places we use for reef info.

^^This is a huge plus. Other boards have threads that already answer complex questions. Or explain procedures thoroughly. It's nice knowing we can just copy & paste a link in the interest of saving time. And not have to reinvent the wheel due to censorship.
