When it comes to reef tanks or even FOWLR tanks, it’s always a debate on what to go with. Either one of each species of fish, a load of the same fish but several groups of them or a mix. I know I prefer having one or two “Large” fish then several groups of different smaller fish (I will often research which species can go in groups). I haven’t done this with either of my tanks yet as I’m waiting to have room for a larger tank to do something similar with my nano. My 4’ tank is the tank which I have as a main display that everyone sees and so I’d rather have the showy species. My dream tank is a tank with about 6-7 groups of smaller fish and a couple larger fish.

A school of anthias!

Larger tanks I love the anthias groups.
However, my favorite part of snokleing and watching my tank is the damsels. They crack me up due to their territorial behaviors and their meticulous upkeep of their area. I love watching them dart about and look so fierce in such a little body. Granted, this is my azure and talbots and lemons. The larger damsels, no thanks.

@i cant think check out these beautiful anthias a shop got in last week...wish I had room! Imagine a small school of them in a tank! Screenshot_2022-04-11-21-54-32-308_com.facebook.katana.jpg Screenshot_2022-04-11-21-54-18-330_com.facebook.katana.jpg

They’re beautiful! What’s the bottom species? The tops I assume are Purple Queens.

I go with both, to some extent. Some specimen fish like the tilefish, lots of wrasses, lots of smaller schooling fish like chromis. But I stock a lot heavier than most people do. Totally worth the extra work for the diversity while watching the tank though!
