What do you recommend for an invertebrate?

I’ve been hunting for a new invert for my nano, now here’s the list so far (Please do recommend other options for me to consider) there’s a catch though, people who own Discordipinna griessingeru have the same issue, what invert won’t eat them? Now, I’m aware the worms won’t eat them however I’m unsure I have a deep enough sand bed for them. Here’s a photo of the tank, it’s a Red Sea max nano (20g total). The sand is about 2 inch deep.

The fish in here are:
- Naoko Fairy Wrasse (Temporary)
- Blue Star Leopard Wrasse (Temporary)
- Pink Streak Wrasse
- Linear Blenny (Possibly going to restrict what I can and can’t have with it nipping acropora)
- Yasha Goby
- Griessinger Goby
- Hectors Goby
- Acicularis Clown Goby
Current inverts are:
- Strawberry Conch
- 2x Nassarius Snails
- Pompom Crab
- 4x Trochus Snails (2x Black Foot, 2x Unknown)
- Mexican Turbo Snail
- Dwarf Blue Legged Hermit
Current coral:
- Hammer “Euphyllia”
- Yuma Ricordea
- Florida Ricordea
- Green Rhodactis
- Blue Discosoma
- Staghorn Acropora
- Spoingoides Montipora

definitely add a coco worm and some feather dusters! pistol shrimp could be added, but recommend doing so at lights out so it is more comfortable moving around looking for it's home. wouldn't even consider a porcelain/anemone or acropora crab until you have established colonies or anemones in the tank.

Yeah, that’s a no for the anemone crab then - I don’t want to risk any nem with the griessingeri’s size (0.5-0.75 inch long at max size).

I just ordered a red tuxedo urchin for my max nano, but that is b/c I have a specific job for it.

I have two feather dusters that I love, so recommend those for sure. I also have some of the green Caribbean porcelain crabs, not associated with nems. They’re very cool to watch and do well in pairs or groups.

I have a pincushion urchin in my 15 gallon nano and he does a lot of work. I know people say they eat coralline so if you want coralline don’t get them, but I honestly think he spreads it by chewing it up. I’ve seen a lot of new growth since adding him. Mine is always out during the day too. Not one of those inverts you never see and everyone comments on him. $10 well spent.

the blue tuxedos are even cooler, but he was an impulse buy.



personally, I’d like to have a clam down the road too, however, I’m waiting until my tank is upgraded and is a little more stable. Some of them are really nice looking.

Do these stay smaller than the other pincushions? I’ll try find a picture of one of my two in my 4’ tank that are about 3.5 inch across (One ate a possum wrasse a few years ago).

Yeah, I don’t really have a specific job but have a lot of film algae growth. I have a Hectors goby though which may limit me from getting an urchin. Didn’t know there were green porcelain crabs though, definitely going to look at them.

Mine is about the size of a golf ball. I do believe they can get larger, but I’ve had a plan to upgrade to a larger tank since the beginning, so that wasn’t a concern for me.

I’ve seen some people have pretty large urchins in smaller tanks though and I think they are fine from what I’ve read (just take up more space/eat more). I’m a newbie to saltwater though and don’t have personal experience with full size urchins.

Omg where's the cleaner shrimps at?!! Sorry but I love my cleaner shrimp more than any fish, coral or invertebrate. My shrimp comes over to me, eats from my hands and gives lots of love.

I always have at least one peppermint shrimp in my system for aiptasia control.

On the side note, you already have a lot of bio loads in that 20g system. Sure wanna add more?
