Hi

I'm in the planning stage of my new tank, tank is 70x28x24, and now is time to define the sump, I make this design to maximize stand space, it will take a complete corner of the stand, but will leave a lot of room for ATO tank, supplements and all the things we need.

I'll be using full triton so this sump is design with that in mind, general dimensions are:

36x24x18 (I like higher sump, they can hold more water from the display in case of any problem).

Sump: 20x24x12
Skimmer section: 16x12x10 (might be able to make baffles to change water height)
Bubble trap: 2.5-3" to hold media blocks later
Return pump section: 16x9x7 (I'll be using to smaller pumps for redundancy)

What do think about this dimensions, what would you change, or will you leave like that?

It looks good. You’ll be on the lower side for the refugium requirements, but your skimmer can offset that, as well as good refugium lighting. Do you have plenty of room under the stand with the bracing in the stand? My sump is around 18” and my tank is 24”. I personally like the extra room and it helps me get the sump out when I need to. IMO bigger is better as long as you have room for any additional equipment(reactors) or dosing/ato containers in the stand you may want now or in the future. I’ve been considering building a larger sump because I have live rock that I moved from my display and haven’t wanted to lose the biological filtration. It’s crazy how we plan but plans change as we go.
