What do you think this growth is..?

I spotted this a few weeks back, haven't found any similar photos online. The diameter is smaller than a dime and is growing in the middle of my tank, getting full sun.
It is hard to the touch, doesn't seem move or have any "feelers" come out to feed, etc. Thoughts?

have you seen it grow because it looks like a dead favia brain or a dead echinata coral

Hmmm... This is on a piece of FL live rock I bought 2.5 years ago and I don't recall ever seeing it. I was arguing with myself earlier if it had grown. I first saw it in Dec. That photo was taken the 1st week of Feb... and it doesn't look like any growth has occurred since then. I've been looking on other ID web sites since then with no avail. So unfortunately, I can't recall if it's grown since I first spotted it but I think so. But I don't see any noticeable growth since the photo was taken.

Agree with you it looks like a dead coral but I sure would have thought I'd have seen it in the last two years.

It could have been just a brown echinata that recently died but other than a coral skeleton I have no clue what it could be
