I have a family room where the back of the sofa is exposed and not against a wall. My teenage daughter had a bunch of friends over watching a Netflix series, both guys and girls. I had pulled my skimmer cup from the other room to clean but instead detoured and quietly set it directly behind the sofa unnoticed, walked away, and watched everyone gag and point fingers. I love being a Dad.

Mine usually stinks as well. A few days ago I used some Instant Ocean Epoxy to build up rocks and attach corals. After I was done my skimmer was overflowing. I shut it off for a day. After I turned it back on and it filled I went to clean it. Smells like dish soap. I am careful and did not get soap on the cup. Has anyone else noticed this after using an epoxy, chems?

lol- I just happened two hours ago checked on my skimmate collector and it was more than half full ( This new Octo 3000 skimmer really is doing the job) and decided to open top and dump it in toilet and rinse out.
My daughter came out of her room with her shirt over her nose and asked me what in the heck stinks so bad . . . LOL. . . .LOL

I'll give everyone a tip to kill or reduce skimmer odor in your home:

Take a small, round carbon pad (cut from bulk carbon pad) and place it on top of your skimmer collection cup, making sure to cover the air holes on top. This will allow the stench exiting from the skimmer collection cup to pass through the carbon, thus remove most of the odor before entering the air in your house.
