What equipment do you keep spares on hand for?

With a 180 I chose the redundancy model instead of spares. I have a pair of return pumps and heaters. While 1 is not enough for full operation the tank would survive fine on a single device for a few days while I get a replacement installed. Never one to want a single point of failure.

I feel on larger tanks you have to go this way because you can't just run to Petco and grab a replacement.

For my 180 g reef tank I keep
1 new return pump (Danner Magnetic pump MAG 9 950 gph)
1 new pump for my skimmer (Danner Magnetic pump MAG 7 700 gph)
1 Tunze ATO pump
2 submersible heaters (have 2 titanium controllable ones in refugium)
2 Reverse osmosis 10" water canisters (had one crack on me before)
Miscellaneous powerheads
Old but still working metal halides (till I replace my lighting system soon)
Miscellaneous tubes.

From the above, the most important in order are the return pump, the heater then the ATO pump

Ive had my tank up and running for almost a year now, meaning my return pump has run almost continuously for a year. i know that is how these things are supposed to function, but It got me thinking that if and when it does fail, I don't have a plan for replacing it other than calling LFS to see if they carry equipment (and are open) or try to overnight something from BRS.

So it leads me to wonder, what equipment do you have spares for?

I do have backup heaters that i could move over from my qt setup, a HOB filter but its been wet in QT with copper so idk if i'd want to use that. Skimmer doesn't seem necessary to have a backup on. What else? anyone else buy a backup return pump and save it for a rainy day?

My tank is going on five years old. I have 2 Quiet One 4000 return pumps. One is in the sump and one is in my drawer. When the one in the sump freezes up, I replace it with the one in the drawer and then I clean the one that was in the sump in vinegar, getting it into new condition. Then I put it in the drawer. And I repeat the cycle over and over. I think I’ve repeated the cycle about six times so far. I do the same thing with my 2 via aqua 800 powerheads. I also keep a spare heater handy.

I'm in Cincinnati Ohio and Premium Aquatics (which has stock on a LOT of parts and equipment) is only 100miles away in Indianapolis IN....

and I can get a UPS Ground shipment next day.
