Hey cube keepers!

What fish are you keeping in your 60 gallon cubes, and what corals are you keeping them with? I’m setting one up now, and would love to know what others are doing!

2 Clowns, 1 carpenter wrasse, 1 royal gamma, 1 purple fire fish, and a small yellow tang.

Mine is a 50 gallon so pretty close to yours.

As for coral I love Euphillias. I have mostly hammers and a couple of fragspawns. A small elegance, bird nest, 2 Anemones, Galaxea, candy cane, and montipora. You can just about have any type of coral tbh. I would let it be at least 2 months in before adding coral. I made the mistake of adding coral right away and lost quite a few :(

2 Black Leopard Wrasse
2 Mandarins (breeding pair)
2 Timor Wrasses
1 Eye Spot Tang
1 Pin Tail Wrasse

And until tonight:
1 Moorish Idol (he is still alive, had him a year, caught him eating a rock nem so he is finding a new home, this tank was never meant to be his long term home anyway)

I’m planning to take it slow, but it sure is tempting to speed it up!

How is that yellow tang working out? I’ve read that they need much bigger tanks than you and I have.

That sounds like a great collection of fish! I have read that tangs need bigger tanks. How is your tang working out? Sorry to hear about the nem-munching! That’s probably my biggest concern—that I’ll put a fish in the tank that I love, but that will decide to turn my corals into lunch meat.

The tang will also end up being relocated within a couple months due to size.

I was building a 265 but have a seam that is leaking, which is where the Idol and the Tang were supposed to eventually live. Due to my busy schedule I haven't had time to tear the 265 apart and redo the seams.

How long have you been able to keep the tang in the smaller tank? I’m just wondering if it’s worth even trying a small one in my tank, or if it will outgrow it in the first year, etc.

He has been in there right at a year.

If you want a tang long term, I would consider one from the Ctenochaetus genus (bristletooth tangs). So Tomini, Kole, Chevron ($$), etc.

The tang is give or take around 3 1/2 inches long. It was doing very well I feed it algae at least twice a week. The pellets have algae but you want to feed it more. I’ve noticed that it has gotten agreeixe towards the carpenter lately. If I keep seeing this I may trade him in for another wrasse of some type.

Thanks everyone for the input so far. This has been a great discussion.

Any other 60 gallon cubers out there? What fish are you guys keeping?

currently i have an african dwarf flameback angel, leopard wrasse, royal gramma, and one clown. everyone seems to get along ok, considering adding a couple small gobies and a second clown here soon.
