So I set up a tank a while back and added a rock from a friend that had some zoas & shrooms on it. Now the zoas are taking over, they are everywhere.

What fish eat zoas?

my hippo tang keeps nipping them

question...do you want to control or eradicate the zoas? Nudis will eradicate and filefish or other fish/inverts will control them!

I'm good with eradication or control. I can take all my other zoas out (the ones I like) and then just get rid of these. But they are on every piece of live rock in the tank.

Certain dwarf angels will develop a taste for certain corals. I found that out the hard way, i.e. expensive way. I mentioned in an earlier post that I had gotten a live rock with a few heads of Sunny D zoas at no cost and they multiplied into over a hundred heads. I got a coral beauty and after having her for months, she developed a taste for my Sunny D's and ate them all up. I can't speak for every dwarf angel but that has been my experience. She now occasionally nips at my Xenias.

LOL! I wish I could train her just to eat the right amount of nuisance corals. I think if I sold her, my girlfriend would give me the silent treatment.

Butterflies, some angels, rabbitfish, filefish and a couple of triggers

LOL, My wish would be sooooo happy if I sold all my tanks (4).... We're about to build a house & I'm planning my fish room & 200+g in wall tank & she just doesn't get it!

My coral beauty developed a taste for zoas. She has eaten almost half of what I had in about a month or so.

been trying to catch or trap her for weeks. Every other fish goes into the trap except her lol.
I really don’t want to remove all the rock structure to catch her but looks like I have no choice.

I usually see post of what fish to NOT get for eating corals, first time I’ve seen someone WANT a Zoa eating fish lol.

If your near Los Angeles and want to catch a coral beauty you could have her. She’s a beautiful fish. A PITA to catch lol. Note she also eats Xenia. She ate it all lol.

good luck.

Larger angels tend to develop a taste for them, but they will probably not eradicate fast growing palythoa.

I used F-Aiptasia to kill some gsp that was taking over a rock. I'm sure it'd work with zoanthids and wouldn't cause harm to the tank or rockwork.

@Bfragale Wish I were closer. If you do catch her, I'd gladly pay to shipper on over! LOL

It all depends on the kind of zoas you have. Certain zoas have high concentrations of palytoxin that nothing will touch. Do you know what kind you have? Can you post a pic?
