Hey all,
So I have had my reef tank setup for around 5-6 months now, it is a 29 gallon plenty dry rock special grade sand, and a 10 gallon sump/fuge, so around 36 g altogether.
With COVID and a lot of things going on I haven’t gotten much time to buy any fish or coral, so I’m stuck with two snails and a firefish. They’re is also plenty of amphipods, and copepods in the tank.
What fish would you guys recommend (reef safe) I want to get a pair of clowns with an anemone. what else do you guys think. Would a sand sifting goby be able to sift the special grade sand?
Thanks.

A small wrasse would be great. Look into possum wrasse yellow and white variety, pink streaks wrasse, tanakas pygmy wrasse. A flame hawkfish would be a great addition as well.

Cardinal fish would be a good addition as well IMO. I have 2 in my 25 cube tank... Also could look at blennies they offer tons of personality as well.

Personally do not like sand sifting gobies.
Had a few and they drop lots of sand on corals and also pile the stuff up in certain sections of the tank..

You could get a basslet like a gramma or a chalk bass.
Any flasher Wrasse would be nice. Some fairy wrasses would work.
Small blenies or gobbies.

I wish I could get a wrasse, my budget under $40. I should have mentioned.

Yeah, I really like the royal gramma. I want something for the sand bed, I feel like nassarius snails don't do a good job aerating it. Is there any goby pistol shrimp pair you would recommend? Two clown gobies could also be nice.

Sand sifting gobies are tuff especially in a smaller tank.
I honestly had one in my reefer 250 and he took every bit of sand and buried a rock he lived under. There was not one piece of sand anywhere except over his rock. Took him a few days.

I agree Nassarius are not worth it for a sand bed. Cucumbers would starve most likely in that small of a tank or get to big like a tigertail. Sandsifting stars would starve. A small conch might be ok for a while.

There are just not many fish that churn sand. Wrasses sleep under the sand most of the time. A jawfish will make a burrow in the sand but neither do much for a whole sand bed.
