I have a 100g 48x24x20 established mixed reef. Some of the inhabitants have been in my tank for 15 years, but this tank has been up for 3 years. This is what I currently have:
1. Purple tang
2. Bicolor angel
3. Neon dottyback
4. 2 ocilarious clowns
5. Flame hawk fish

Then some inverts and corals. I need a some bottom dwellers and maybe something that school a little bit. One other item the tank is open w/o a top so no jumpers. About 50g of water in my sump as well.

What about a diamond goby and toby puffer? What inverts do you have?

Thanks. I have been thinking about them bc they school some and are free swimmers. I never thought they were interesting but when i followed your link there are more types then I realized. I would live a puffer or something different but i don't they are very compatible.
i have 2 PJ cardinals that are at opposite sides of the tank but also swim together. The 3rd one disappeared never to be seen again.

Blood shrimp, some pepermints, red leg hermits, blue legs, emerald crabs, a variety of your normal snails, black urchin, strawberry conch, i think that sums up the other stuff. I think the diamond goby may be a good choice. I have to do some research on the toby puffer bc i thought they wernt reef safe. It would be cool to keep one though.

Neon dottybacks certainly aren’t reef safe either. They aren’t even fish safe, so that could cause some problems with what fish you can add. Have you thought about a royal gramma though? It might be a good fit. What about a shrimp goby? I love my Randall’s goby.

How about that. It didnt dawn on me that the dottyback would be the limiting factor. In my tank he has been a model citizen. He doesnt pick on anyone but my fish are all prettt tough. Hasnt put a dent in the worm population at all they are all over the place. This dottyback seems to be good but your right i do need to make sure whatever i add can defend itself. I think i would enjoy a Randall's goby. I will look into that. I think a goby should be next.

good one, yeah that neon dotty is a gut muncher be careful, pyramid or even copperband?

I just bought my fist Copperband — got my nerve up, because people seem to say all but about 1-in-10 will die of starvation. Tried everything but live worms— even mussels and clams on the half shell; I watched it starve within 12 days.

full blown reef what size?
they need pods

yeah they are picky picky eaters had mine for about 3 years 240 reef always picking and poking grew a couple of inches and the just gone ,never seen it eat any food at all ,but was a very cool slick swimmer

Well just noticed the no top thing so a goby would be a no go. Toby puffers ime have been pretty reef safe. They will pick off inverts so your shrimp may or may not be ok.

I’m sure most fish would be ok with a dottyback. However, I did have one kill a firefish and almost kill my urchin, so I wouldn’t recommend anything timid. What about some chromis or anthias? Flame hawks can be jumpers, so you may want to look into getting a lid. If you do decide to get one, wrasses would be a good fit for your tank.

I had a blue spot toby puffer and it was very good with most the reef. My established shrimp was fine, but pretty sure he ate any added after him. He passed in a tank move, but now I can put my clams back in the system. :)
He was dog like too. Very funny fish.

Toby puffer, awesome. I love them so much.
ZEBRA MORAY
completely dosil and reef safe, just need a cave system. You could keep a juvenile for a few years, 120+ full grown for gallons

My flame hawk has been in this tank for several years with no jumping. I can not keep wrasses though bc Ive had twi jump out which is disappointing to me bc i really like them. I also dont want a lid on the tank so my corals get full light. I have been attracted to Anthias. Do u reconmend any particular type?
